Gravity has soared to the top of the box office with a record-breaking $55.6 million in North America, which is the highest October opening of all time, surpassing Paranormal Activity 3’s $52.6 million debut, as well as being the career-best for Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity is already a hit with critics, but this weekend it saw box office to match,
“In two days, this movie has become a cultural phenomenon. People that haven’t gone to the movies in years, or who only see one or two movies a year, are going to see Gravity. It’s a film that’s played well with the press and also equally well with the public,” said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution.
