Its part of human nature to have misconceptions. But, hopefully in the next few minutes we’ll debunk some of them. Some myths bounce around on crazy e-mail chain letters, on Facebook and pop up on goofy evening news reports.  Some of them are so accepted they seem hardwired into our brains. Take a deep breath here are the 10 things you thought were true but really are not.

MYTH-1 We lose most of our body heat through our head



Wrong. Actually, you would lose the same amount of body heat everywhere if you were naked. It’s just that your head is less likely to be covered.

MYTH-2 The Great Wall of China can be seen from the Space

This is not true at all. The Great Wall of China is hardly visible even from low Earth orbit and there are other monuments that are much easier to see. This myth is 100 years old.

MYTH-3 Different parts of your tongue detect different tastes

Its not true. Actually we detect all the tastes on every part of our tongue to roughly the same extent.

MYTH-4 Before Columbus People thought the Earth was flat

Completely wrong. People have known since Greek times that we live on a large spherical ball.

MYTH-5 Cracking knuckles can cause arthritis

No,they won’t cause arthritis but doctors believe after a long time it may lower grip strength.

MYTH-6 Nails and hair continue to grow after you die

After death skin recedes from the body making fingernails and hair appear longer. So its not rue.

MYTH-7 The 5 Second Rule

As per this myth food dropped on the ground will not be significantly contaminated with bacteria if it is picked up within five seconds. But its completely wrong. It would be contaminated with in a fraction of a second it touches the ground.

MYTH-8 Ostriches, when threatened, stick their heads in the ground

When they feel threatened, they play dead. They never stick their heads in the ground at all.

MYTH-9 Water is good conductor of electricity

Actually the contaminated water is good conductor of electricity because of the minerals in it. The pure water is actually quite bad conductor of electricity.

MYTH-10 Bats are blind

While most of the bats species use echolocation to navigate. They are not blind at all.
